Pool deck cleaning and recoating
Sun, rain, pool water and sunscreen wear down a wooden or composite deck. Pebble Pools cleans, washes and recoats decking around pools at villas, hotels and resorts in Phuket and across Thailand.

Why decks around pools need care
A deck by the pool gets wet and dries out many times a day. Timber turns grey, dries out and opens at the surface, while algae and dirt make the boards slippery. Composite boards fade and collect grime in the grooves. Regular care keeps the deck pleasant underfoot and slows the wear.
What we do
Deck care covers three parts: cleaning, washing and recoating.
- Cleaning and washing wooden and composite decking, including grooves, edges and steps
- Removing algae, dirt and old flaking coating from timber
- Recoating timber with oil or varnish, chosen to suit the wood and how the deck is used
- Cleaning composite boards and recoating them where the board is made to take a coating
- Protecting the pool water, coping and planting while we work
Oil or varnish
Oil soaks into the timber and gives a natural, matt look. It needs topping up more often, but topping it up is simple. Varnish forms a film on the surface with more sheen. When it wears, it needs more preparation before recoating. We look at your deck and how it is used, then recommend one or the other.
Inspection and what we report
Before we start, we walk the deck with you. We note loose or split boards, raised fixings, soft areas and gaps by the pool edge, and tell you what needs attention beyond cleaning and recoating. Deck care can be part of a pool care contract, or we can plan it alongside a pool restart.
At hotels and busy villas we work in sections, so part of the deck stays open. We agree the order of work with your manager or engineer, and the programme is agreed for the individual project.
What to send for a first discussion
For a first discussion and a quotation, send us:
- Photos of the deck, including close-ups of worn, grey or slippery areas
- The property location in Phuket or elsewhere in Thailand
- The approximate deck area and whether it is timber or composite
- Any coating used before, if you know it, and when the deck is in use
Questions we are asked
Should we oil or varnish our timber deck?
It depends on the wood, the look you want and how the deck is used. We inspect it and recommend one or the other.
Can composite decking be recoated?
Some composite boards can take a coating, and others are better simply cleaned. We check the boards before agreeing the scope.
Will washing water get into the pool?
We protect the pool and keep washing water out of it. Where needed, we agree a lower water level or a cover with you.
