Looking after your pool while you are away

Pebble Pools looks after pools in Phuket and across Thailand while their owners are away. We can drain and conserve the pool, or keep it running at low effort. We decide the approach with you for each pool.

Leaving a pool while you are away

A pool left without care turns green, collects leaves and can stain. Equipment that stands unused can seize. Before you leave, we agree with you how the pool will be looked after until you return.

We offer this as a set of options, not a fixed package. The right choice depends on the pool's structure and finish, the ground and groundwater around it, the equipment, the trees nearby and how long the house will stand empty.

Keeping the pool running or draining it

Many pools are better left in water and kept running at low effort. Others can be drained and conserved. Draining does not suit every pool. An empty shell can be affected by groundwater pressure, and some finishes do not suit standing dry in the sun. We check this before we recommend it.

  • Kept running at low effort: reduced circulation, balanced water and regular checks
  • Drained and conserved: the pool emptied and cleaned, and the shell and pump room prepared to stand dry
  • In both cases, the pump room and its drainage pumps are checked before the monsoon

Covers, roofs and tents

A cover keeps leaves, dust and rain out of the water and means less cleaning when you come back. Where trees overhang the pool, or the house will stand empty through the rainy season, we can arrange to rent a roof or tent over the pool.

  • A pool cover chosen for the pool's shape and the option you choose
  • A rented roof or tent over the pool, where the site and access allow
  • Covers and structures checked on every visit

Periodic visits and reports

We visit at intervals agreed with you. Every visit is recorded with photos sent to you or your villa manager, so you can see the state of the pool from abroad.

  • Water level, clarity and balance in a pool kept running
  • The empty shell, finish and drains in a pool left dry
  • The pump room, including drainage pumps and signs of damp or flooding
  • Anything that needs attention, reported with photos before any extra work is done

Bringing the pool back into use

Before you return, we bring the pool back into service. We clean it, refill it if it was drained, balance the water and check the equipment. If the pool will be refilled from a borehole, lake or river, tell us in advance, because that water can stain the finish. Our pool restart service covers this in more detail.

What to send us

Send us a few details so we can suggest the options for your pool.

  • Photos of the pool, the area around it and the pump room
  • The property location and the approximate pool size
  • When you plan to leave and roughly how long the house will stand empty
  • Whether you would prefer the pool kept running or drained, and whether you want a cover, roof or tent

Questions we are asked

Should we drain the pool or keep it running?

It depends on the pool. Draining suits some pools and sites but not others, for example where groundwater is high. We inspect the pool and agree the option with you.

Is a cover enough on its own?

A cover keeps debris out, but you still need the visits. The water, the cover and the pump room need checking, especially through the rainy season.

Can you rent a roof or tent over the pool?

Yes, where the site allows. We arrange it as one of the options and check it on our visits.

Can the pool be ready when we come back?

Yes. Tell us your return date and we will bring the pool back into service before you arrive.
