Waterfalls, cascades, glass features and ponds
We build waterfalls of any kind: cascades and walls in black marble or natural grey granite, lit waterfalls, water curtains, and modern glass water features where a glass box fed with water from below overflows its edges as a water column or cube. Each needs proper waterproofing, a dedicated balance volume and the right flow for the weir.
Instead of the common set-up where a waterfall shares the main pool pump, runs all the time and has to be switched in the pump room, we fit a separate pump so the waterfall runs on demand or on a timer. Controls can include a remote button, a phone app via a relay to the smart pool system, or a poolside pneumatic button. Fibre-optic lighting carries light from a source outside the water through fibres to many points; electrical work is done by a licensed electrician.
- Cascades and feature walls in black marble, natural grey granite or natural stone, sized with a balance tank so the weir runs evenly
- Modern overflowing glass cubes and water columns fed from below, plus options for fibre-optic lighting and water projection
- Dedicated waterfall pumps and controls by remote button, smart pool app relay or pneumatic button
- Artificial rocks, reflecting ponds, shallow basins around salas and stepping-stone walkways across water
- Waterproofing concrete ponds without tiling using pigmented coatings, or finishing them in dark or sand-toned PebbleCrete; we cannot waterproof a pond built on a liner
Fire-and-water features and fire bowls
Fire-and-water features can be part of a water feature design: spillway bowls that combine flowing water with a flame, wall scuppers, and fire bowls and fire pits by the pool with fire glass. Purpose-made tempered fire glass is used, not ordinary glass, and the feature is built with the water side and the gas side kept apart and drained against tropical rain.
We design and build the features ourselves: the bowl or basin, the water side and the finish. They run on LPG from a cylinder, not on mains gas. The gas line from the cylinder to the feature is connected by a certified gas contractor, whom we arrange, and any wiring is done by a licensed electrician.
Lagoon pools with beach entries and water-feature repairs
We build sloped beach entries that turn a standard pool into a resort lagoon, and we repair existing hotel and villa water features that have been switched off due to leaks or failed pumps. Our page on lagoon pools and beach entries covers the shallows in more detail.
- Lagoon pools with gently sloped beach entries, architectural concrete, rockwork and light sand-toned PebbleCrete finishes underfoot
- Guidance on skimmer versus overflow lagoons: an overflow lagoon looks most natural and has no dirty waterline, so for the full lagoon effect a skimmer is not the right choice
- Restarting dead waterfalls and features by replacing pumps, clearing scaled pipes and sealing leaks where stone meets the shell
- Removing an unwanted leaking waterfall cleanly and refinishing the pool wall
Draining, pool use and how we organise the work
Whether the pool stays open depends on whether the feature shares the main pool water. An on-site inspection decides this, and the programme is agreed for the individual project.
- Pool stays in use or water is lowered: repairing external feature pumps, building standalone reflecting ponds, or working on a waterfall wall above the waterline with the pool protected
- Pool must be drained: shaping a sloped beach entry, waterproofing an in-pool cascade or overflow channel, or refinishing the lagoon interior, with care taken when draining in the wet season or where groundwater is high
- Who decides what: we check pump flow, balance tank capacity and stone junctions with you before agreeing the scope; structural changes are agreed with you and your engineer — or, if you don't have one, with our partner engineer — and because hidden problems under stone or finishes may only appear once work starts, repairs can proceed in stages
What to send for a first discussion
Send us these details so we can review your water feature or lagoon project.
- Photos or a short video of the pool, pond or non-working waterfall and the pump room
- The property location and approximate size of the pool, pond or feature wall
- What you want changed, such as a marble or granite waterfall, a glass water cube, fire bowls, a dedicated pump and remote control, or restarting an existing cascade
Where we have done this
CompletedPrivate Villa, Nai Yang — pool and interiors
A new pool built by us — jacuzzi, waterfall, water feature, fibre optics — plus feature walls, interiors, furniture, bar, bathroom and terrace surfaces
The pool along the living room and master bedroom
During the villa's renovation we built a new pool from scratch, with a waterfall, a water feature along the pool wall, a jacuzzi and fibre-optic lighting.
CompletedPrivate Villa — French Grey
New pool finish, with square-sculpted edges on the steps, the overflow coping and the waterfall
The finished pool in PebbleCrete Classic French Grey
We applied the finish over a new shell, with square-sculpted edges along the steps, the overflow coping and the waterfall. We also supplied the pool equipment; the embedded fittings were set by others.
CompletedVilla Tantawan Resort
Renovation of pools at the resort
The villa pool and its terrace
Alongside renovating the resort pools, we finished the shallow pond around the sala in black.
CompletedPrivate Villa, Thepkrassatri — White Halo
Pool extension with a shallow ledge and air massage, a jacuzzi and seating, the old steps and seats removed and new compact steps built, a larger overflow and rebuilt balance tank, a black marble feature wall with a planter and a water curtain, a smaller reworked pump room with a salt chlorinator and a new filter, new flat lights, fibre optics and projection; refinished throughout; paths, terraces, stairs and kitchens in PebbleCrete
The pool and the black marble wall from the entrance
We extended the pool, rebuilt the balance tank and built the rough black marble feature wall beside the pool, lit with fibre optics. Below the wall a water curtain falls into the pool, with a planter between the wall and the water curtain.
Questions we are asked
Why do many villa waterfalls stop working or lose water?
Waterfalls often fail because the balance tank is too small for the weir flow or water leaks where natural stone meets the concrete shell. We inspect the structure, seal the junctions and match the pump and balance tank to the cascade.
Can our waterfall be switched on from the terrace instead of running all day?
Yes. Many pools run the waterfall off the main circulation pump, so it runs constantly and has to be switched in the pump room. We can fit a separate waterfall pump controlled by a remote button, a pneumatic button or a phone app relay.
Can you repair a resort waterfall without draining the main pool?
If the fault is in the pump room, valves or pipework above water level, we can repair and restart the cascade with the pool in use. If waterproofing or stone fixing inside the wetted basin needs rebuilding, lowering the water or draining is decided at inspection.
Can you waterproof an existing pond?
If the pond has a concrete base, yes, with or without tiling. A pond built on a liner is not something we can waterproof.
