Upgrades & repairs for hotels and villas · Pool systems & design
The concept: shape, depth and finish
We start with how the pool will be used and seen. A family villa, a hotel terrace and a rooftop each ask for something different, so the concept comes first.
Fibre-optic lighting is not a set of LEDs. Light from a source outside the pool is carried through fibres to many small points in the steps, ledges or walls. Pool lighting can also be controlled from an app on your phone. Electrical connections are agreed with your electrician or engineer.
- Shape and depth zones, from shallow areas for lounging and play to deeper swimming water
- Baja shelves, also called shallow or tanning ledges, and beach entries for sitting, sunbathing and easy access
- Sunken seating, jacuzzi zones, air-massage fields and in-pool (swim-up) bars, which we build and finish
- Waterfalls of any kind, from natural stone to lit falls, water curtains and cascades
- Fibre-optic lighting and projection onto the water
- The finish and colour, in PebbleCrete or any other finish, chosen with you from samples and renders
The systems behind the water
A pool that looks right still has to run well. We design the systems alongside the concept, so the pump room, the pipes and the levels fit the architecture. If a pump room sits above pool water level, the hydraulics are designed for the lift; if it is underground, we design ventilation and main drainage for heavy rain, with any battery pump only as a last line of defence — and no one should ever enter a flooded pump room while the power is on.
If you are a builder and need the hydraulic package on its own, our separate page on pool hydraulics for builders covers that work.
- Skimmer or overflow edge, and the balance tank an overflow needs
- Hydraulics: inlets, drains, circulation and pipe routes
- Filtration and pump selection
- Underwater, fibre-optic and feature lighting, with app control if you want it
- Pump room layout, with access for servicing
- Underground pump rooms with ventilation, water removal and flood protection, where there is no space above ground
What you receive
You receive a design your architect and builder can work from. It covers the pool itself and the systems that run it.
Structural design of the shell, including reinforcement and calculations, and drawings for permits are prepared and signed by a licensed engineer. Engineering decisions are made with you and your engineer — or, if you don't have one, with our partner engineer.
- Sketches and schemes: plan, sections through the depth zones, pipework and equipment schemes
- 3D views and colour renders of the pool in the finish colour you have chosen
- Equipment sizing for pumps, filters, inlets and the balance tank volume
- Review of drawings by others, where an architect or builder has already designed the pool
Design review, then the build
If your pool is already drawn, we can check the design before work starts. We look at the depths, levels, edge, hydraulics and pump room, and tell you what we would change and why.
We build pools ourselves, with a PebbleCrete finish or any other finish you choose. We can also support your builder with pipework installation and acceptance testing.
Turnkey pool construction from the ground up
We plan the shape, depth zones, finish, hydraulics and pump room, then build the pool. Where another contractor builds the shell, we can set pipework into the reinforcement before the pour. We can also start from a bare concrete shell cast by others and install the render, embedded fittings and PebbleCrete finish.
Engineering decisions are made with you and your engineer — or, if you don't have one, with our partner engineer. Hidden problems may only appear once work starts, so work can go in stages. Draining in the wet season or with high groundwater needs assessment. Electrical work, including isolation, earthing and earth-leakage checks, is carried out by a licensed electrician agreed with the owner. Water testing is done on site because source water, equipment, use and the finish all matter.
- Pool concepts, depth zones, 3D views, colour renders and equipment sizing
- Pool construction with PebbleCrete, tile, mosaic or another finish you choose
- Pipework installation while another contractor builds the shell
- Render, embedded fittings and PebbleCrete finish from a bare concrete shell
- Baja shelves, separate beach entries, sunken seating, jacuzzis, air massage, waterfalls and swim-up bars
- Above-ground or underground pump room layouts, with ventilation and water removal where required
- Sand filters filled with PebblePure glass filter media
What to send for a first discussion
Send us what you have, even at an early stage.
- A site plan, architectural drawings or existing pool drawings, or photos of the site
- The location, and the approximate size and use of the pool
- Whether you want a design, a review of existing drawings, or design and build
- Any references for the shape, edge and colour you have in mind
Where we have done this
CompletedPrivate Villa, Nai Yang — Atoll Pearl
A new pool built by us — shallow ledge, two-zone jacuzzi, air massage, waterfall, fibre optics, projection, underground pump room — plus feature walls, bathroom floors and vanity tops, and terrace floors
The pool edge and the black stone channel beside it
We built this new villa pool in Nai Yang, with a shallow ledge, a two-zone jacuzzi, air massage, a waterfall, fibre-optic lighting and a projection onto the water.

Private Villa, Nai Yang — Royal Blue
A new pool built by us, with a jacuzzi, fibre optics and an underground pump room; coping, counters, fence and terrace floor
We built and finished this new villa pool in Nai Yang, with a jacuzzi and fibre-optic lighting. There was no space for a pump room above ground, so it sits underground, with ventilation and water removal.
CompletedPrivate Villa, Thepkrassatri — White Halo
Pool extension with a shallow ledge and air massage, a jacuzzi and seating, the old steps and seats removed and new compact steps built, a larger overflow and rebuilt balance tank, a black marble feature wall with a planter and a water curtain, a smaller reworked pump room with a salt chlorinator and a new filter, new flat lights, fibre optics and projection; refinished throughout; paths, terraces, stairs and kitchens in PebbleCrete
The pool and the black marble wall from the entrance
We extended an existing villa pool and refinished it throughout. The work added a shallow ledge with air massage switched on from a phone app, new steps, a larger symmetrical overflow, a rebuilt balance tank, a black marble wall with a planter and a water curtain, fibre-optic lighting and a roof projector that throws images onto the water. The garden paths and steps are lit with fibre optics too.
CompletedNY Kids, Nai Yang
New pool built from scratch and finished, a playground set turned into water slides, with the columns, table tops and outdoor shower column
The pool and terrace in the evening
We built this pool from scratch and finished it: the coping and the PebbleCrete Classic White Granite surface. We retrofitted the playground set next to the pool into water slides, with water running down the slides into the pool.
Guides on this topic
What drives the scope and budget of a villa pool in Phuket
The scope and budget of a villa pool in Phuket are driven by the site and access, the ground and groundwater, the size, depth zones and edge type, the structure and waterproofing, the equipment, finish and features, and the timing around the monsoon. Two pools of a similar size can end up with very different scopes, so this guide sets out each factor, without quoting prices, so you can plan ahead and compare quotations on the same basis.Logos, patterns and step markers in a pebble or glass pool finish
Logos, geometric patterns, colour zones and contrasting step finishes can be laid by hand directly into a PebbleCrete or PebbleCrete Glass surface, or set into an existing tiled pool. Work inside the pool is done in a drained, dry pool after an inspection, so it is planned together with any other drained work; logos in walkways and decks are laid outside the pool.Questions we are asked
Can you design a pool that another company will build?
Yes. We prepare the design for your architect and builder. We can also support the build with pipework installation and acceptance testing.
Can you check drawings we already have?
Yes. We review an architect's or builder's pool design before work starts and explain what we would change.
Do you also rework existing pools?
Yes. We can extend or remodel an existing pool, with structural decisions made with you and your engineer — or our partner engineer. Because hidden problems in an existing structure may only show once work starts, the work can go in stages. At a villa in Thepkrassatri, for example, we extended an existing pool with a new shallow ledge, new steps and a larger overflow.
Do you build pools with finishes other than PebbleCrete?
Yes. We build pools ourselves and can finish them in PebbleCrete, tile, mosaic or another surface you choose.
